UMFA

Not much time is left for the Monet to Picasso exhibit. The final day is September 21st and I really encourage everyone to go. The exhibit actually took much longer that I expected. We were there for about 2 and a half hours. You can go to http://www.umfa.utah.edu/monettopicasso to buy tickets. They are bought like movie tickets with a time and day for you to enter the exhibit. I was told that the best time is a weekdays right when they open at 10 am.

My favorites were Van Gogh, Dali and Monet. I was so glad that the Monet's were better than expected. I've seen prints of his work in most dental or medical offices. Almost like his work is the go to when you need something generic to fill a wall. It was good to see that his work is actually much better than that. Which I guess was kind of a given since art is better in real life. The Van Gogh's were so thick with paint, almost chunky. You can see exactly were his brush was on the canvas. They only had one Dali, but it was amazing because of the exact opposite. You can't see his brush strokes at all. The paint is perfectly smooth but perfectly placed. You'd think that the paint would have to be very wet or thin to get the effect but how would you stop it from sliding or smearing.

I did not like the Matisse or Degas. Just not my kind of guys. To....I don't know. Boring...simple. I don't think I like portraits much. And I'm still not sure about Picasso. I can see were his work falls in the history of art and how it would be progressive. And yet, nothing. I was not moved. Oh, well. Either way absolutely worth the money and time. Now your turn. Go now.

Roar. I think she was pissed.

Clouds

These are the days. Just another day going to work, another day in the city but look up and there is a great reminder of the good life. The days are cooling little by little. The coat will have to be dragged out of the closet. Covered in last years dust and cat hair, off to the cleaners it goes.
Gorgeous summer days in the city are coming to an end, only to start the dazzling fall display. If only winter would never knock on my door.

Ducks

I know it is just September and winter is still a few months away but I'm already missing summer. I really don't like winter. The snow is gorgeous when you are inside and warm. If only it would learn how to melt faster or at least stay off the sidewalks and roads.
Global warming is on my side here. Can you tell that I'm not a skier? Actually, in the entire time that I've lived here I have yet to go skiing. And don't think that I'll be going this year either. I'll just have to enjoy every day to it's fullest. Like these insanely cute baby ducks were earlier in the summer.
